Autism Walk this Sunday in MA...

We're planning on doing the Walk Now for Autism walk this Sunday (Autism Speaks) in Boston, but the weather is supposed to be horrendous   DH is worried about the kids being out in the rain (3yo and 16mo), as well as me since I'm pregnant.  I am so bummed about this.  I really want to attend since this will be our first walk in honor of our DD Katelyn and also we have raised donations, so I feel guilty if we do not attend.  I'm thinking of seeing if we can get someone to watch the kids so we can at least attend, but DH thinks it is a bad idea to even attempt to go.  It is supposed to be rainy, windy and cold...a Nor'Easter as they call it here in MA.

Anyone ever attend one of these walks in the rain?
Boohbah40101.7014236111We attended our Ride & Stride for Autism on Sept. 27th, thought for sure it was going to rain. But, while we were out walking, the sun shone through! It didn't even rain a little bit. It was a good day.

So I hope the weather stays good for you guys!
Thanks, Honey75!

We did ours last month during a heat wave, yuck...

It was fun though, they had a lot of activities for kids, and our team raised over $700

I don't think I would want to take little ones in the rain though, especially i it's going to be cold too...maybe he's right...

Thanks, gmom.  I'm fine with not bringing the kids if we can get someone to watch them.  I really still want to go even though it is going to be very windy and rainy.  It is our first year doing the walk and it is important to me

Our first autism walk was during a tropical storm (think monsoon).  It was the first walk ever in our area, so a friend who also has a daughter on the spectrum went with me.  We had the girls in strollers  wrapped up in beach towels and whatever else we could find to keep the girls warm and somewhat dry.  We parked at the location and saw lots of people huddling around trying to stay dry under 1 10x10 canopy during a torrential downpour....the people holding the walk thanked us all for showing up and we went home.  They scheduled the next year's walk a few months later in the year.  Take home message...there will always be a walk next year. The money will still go and support autism.  5 years later, I am still doing the walk. The walk in our area is sponsored by CAN and Autism Speaks..I have some issues with Autism Speaks, so I don't fundraise, but I volunteer my Brownie Troop and we work the walk.  In our area the walk is good because there is also a resource fair so we can talk to different providers of services/activities in the area.

Good luck and don't worry if you decide to keep your family dry and warm this year. People that donated money did it to support autism and your family. They would probably be mad at you if your precious girls got sick or if you got sick.

Thanks, nene
