Website of Texas State School Policy?Hi everyone, I am working on a paper for my special education doctoral degree that is looking at the policies in Texas State Schools. Does anyone know if there is a website or other resource that lists the policies that govern the state school system? Thanks! Nicole PreK-12 public education is governed by the Texas Educaion Agency (all schools including traditional public, publicly funded charter, publicly funded virtual, and state schools). The TEA is online at www.tea.state.tx.us. Higher Ed. (beyond high school, with the exception of vocational/technical schools) is governed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The THECB is online at www.thecb.state.tx.us. Vocational/technical education (beyond high school) is governed by the Texas Workforce Commission (www.twc.state.tx.us). Hope that helps! In Texas, "State School" is a euphemism for institution. If that's the type of "school" you are asking about, their name was changed during the last state legislature session to "State Supported Living Centers," and you can find official information about them here: http://www.dads.state.tx.us/services/stateschools/index.h tml You can also find some unofficial information about them here: http://www.communitynowfreedom.com/texas_institution_fact s If you mean K-12 public schools, in addition to the links given above, I would also suggest you look at Texas Project First: http://www.texasprojectfirst.org/ And read "It's a New IDEA", a free, readable guide to special education in Texas that is available from the ARC of Texas as a PDF download: http://www.thearcoftexas.org/resources/families/inclusion resources.asp#newidea |
