Anyone here live in San Jose CA. ?

I am moving from Indiana to San Jose CA. My son is 9 years old with
ASD, OCD and moderate mental disorder. Is South San Jose a good
area school system for autism? Does anyone know any good information
for me to look n 2? Thanks Parents Helping Parents also maintains a Yahoo group.  Its name is 1137php.  I believe that this is a moderated group so you have to run something by the moderator before you can post.

However, my impression from watching the groups in the SF bay area is that if your child happens to match the program that the school district chooses to provide then you are happy.  If not and you try to get a customized program, then you typically hit brick walls.  So when asking advice you might think about saying where on the spectrum your ASD kid falls, since it might be important.

Incidentally there are a bunch of school districts in south San Jose.  The Santa Clara County Office of Education has a map, although it is not terribly useful unless you are familiar with the area.  But roughly South San Jose has as school districts:
Los Gatos, Loma Prieta, San Jose Unified, Oak Grove, and Union.

If you are in the right range of ASD, what was formerly known as the Michelle Garcia Winner Center for Social Thinking (now Teach Social Silicon Valley) is located in San Jose.

Keep in mind that the California budget fiasco is hitting education hard.  So your mileage may vary.
