b12 shotsI gave the shots...for several months ....I did not notice one bit of difference ( wish I did) ...the shots were really not a big deal and my DS hardly noticed that I gave him a shot...we called it an "Air shot" and never let him see the needle.... good luck we got he lab results back and a list of supplements the doc think might be helpful - calcium, zinc, Vitamin D, B 12, also probiotics and diflucam He took probiotic and diflucam today and layed down for one hour saying he felt really weired. will see what happens However here is my question: he wants me to give the b12 as a shot. I have given myself shots before and my ds would be fine with getting shots but I still find it pretty invasive and while I am happy to try vitamins and supplements to see if it helps, shots are kind of pushing the line for me. What is your thought on shots? Did your kid react to diclucan and probiotics?
We've never tried diflucam, but probiotics made one of my girls very fussy all day long--hard to say what she was feeling because she is 2 1/2 and nonverbal. I skipped the next day's dose and then started her on a half dose for about a week and then took her back up to a full dose with no problems. I'm a firm believer in starting one thing at a time even if it's a vitamin so I can gage reactions and really know where it's coming from. We have done the MB12 injections for 4 weeks, and like you, at first I was saying no way, it just seemed too drastic. I changed my mind after talking with our DAN and a friend whose son was on them and doing well. It's supposedly the most effective form for ASD kids. I have become very comfortable with giving the shots and one DD doesn't even know she's getting it. Oh, I see you have twin girls as well!!! Isn't it fun????? I don't have a problem giving the MB12 shots. I consider it along the same lines as giving insulin shots should my children be diabetic. Ask your doctor for some Lidocaine to numb the site prior to the injection. That makes it nearly painless. Fortunately I have a friend who is a home care RN, she trained me on giving the MB12 shots. The instructions from the doctor were poor.It seemed to make a slight difference in my son's behavior, but no effect on language in either child. These twins are extremely language-resistant. The usual things such as fish oil, DMG, etc. have had no effect on their language ability. Probiotics seemed to have no effect, my son still got sick as always. They do prevent diarrhea if you have to give antibiotics though (I know, antibiotics is a dirty word on autism forums). I never even heard of the other thing, diclucan? Read up on methyl b-12 injections: http://www.drneubrander.com/dev/index.html We haven't tried the B12 shots yet although the DAN has suggested it. Our dd is very verbal but I am wondering if it will improve her attention and focus. Anyone seen improvements in this area? ttfn I have been giving them to my son for about 3 months now and I haven't seen any improvement in his speech. He is non verbal but I have also not noticed any negative side effects either so I will continue to give them to him. It is known to be the best route of administration for MB-12. My son also doesn't care that he is getting them and so this also helps. I give them to him while he is awake and he doesn't feel them. I have noticed an improvement in his understanding of language. He use to not respond to anything I said, except for STOP but know I have noticed that he is slowly understanding what I am saying more. This could also be do to the fact that he is getting older. He just turned 2 a couple of days ago and I am very hopeful that he will be verbal some day.we give them to R when he is asleep but we always put numbing cream first in a cut in half band aid - ie each sticky side is cut in half so its a really small band aid I was sick to my stomach before we gave them it felt so invasive But R does not notice them and since he hates the vitamins -he would probably say the vitamin is far mmore invasive OUt of all the DAN things we have done I really have noticed a difference only with Diflucan ( yeast medicine - giggling fits gone -yeast can create a drunken effect - a real beer belly so as to speak ) MB12 shots ( more "with it") and Coromega ( yummy mercury free fish oil) that helped with receptive speech and reduced stimminess We give our son b12 nasal sprays and he responded very good to it. I hate shots and would never tired them.the shots are most effective then nasal spray (most kids hate this, too) then sublingual We did the shots for three months and didn't see a difference, but we didn't have the rest of his nutritional supplements in place yet, and we hadn't yet started treating for yeast. We've put the shots on the backburner for now, but given the number of children who respond, I'm more than willing to try them again. |
