Hi. My son has impetigo, and his physician prescribed oral antibiotics. Should we give him probiotics throughout the antibiotic course, wait until the end, or do something else? Thanks in advance. Give him probiotics the entire time, and for at least a while after he finished the antibiotic. They kill off the beneficial flora in the gut, so you have to replenish it.Make sure you are giving the probiotics a minimum of two hours after he's getting the antibiotics, and preferably at night with a little food. Then continue on after you are done with the antibiotics indefinitely.thanks! we have to give him the antibiotics three times a day. do i need to give him probiotics every time i give him antibiotics? also, any recommendations on brands? i am so nervous about anything new. i think he had a reaction to enzymes, which caused extreme eczema, which lead to the impetigo... No, not three times a day. Just do it at night before bed. That way they have all night while he is sleeping to do their work. Kirkmanlabs has a good brand (you can find them by googling) called ProBioGold but it sounds like you need something now. Most health food stores sell a probiotic by Renew Life that is 25billion CFU's or more that is a broad spectrum (meaning it has 8 or more different strains) and I would get something like that out of the refrigerator case until you can get something better. |
