IEP! Yeehee...seriously what do U think?

That looks like a LOT.

ABOUT TIME they did something for you and Hay!!!!  Congrats.  Hope this is what works out best.

Ok here is my sons IEP, what do u think?

He has pullouts and goals for math 200 minutes a week and Reading skills 150 minutes per week. He has assistive devices for learning in math and reading (some computer thingamajig).

He has some social emotional goals which are mainly focused on getting him to go into class with out resistance (3 out of 5 times). He is trying something new where the principal meets me in front of the school and takes him to the special education teacher (who is out on duty watching kids at the playground) where she will keep an eye on him and try having him come in with the rest of the kids instead of arriving extra early by himself with the teacher alone).

We are trying 1st grade because they are doing 1/2 day kindy next year and dont think he will handle all the transitions (originally were planning half day kindy, then pullouts, then rest of the day in 1st grade).

He also has accomodations such as seating, more time on assignments, extra response time, limit amount of reading, oral directions slowly avoiding unnecessary words, extra time on tests, read aloud to and time to calm down-given calming activities and a quite spot to retreat to. Acc. are to be given in all subjects. O and his dibbles test (reading) will be given by someone he knows (teachers aide) so he gets true test results unlike before hed get all 0s unless by her.

Modifications on assessments (reduced, simplified, and or alternative assignments/assessments) They said this is reguarding spelling test etc. and he will take them in the resource room with the sp. ed teacher.

I have some issues with some things like I did not recieve a copy of his OT screening which i told them (looking over things i realized it was a summary the psychologist wrote about it and not the actual results) so i requested that which they couldnt find of course but will get to me. They said his screening indicated no need for OT yet im reading his IEP and it indicated under physical development that he has difficulity with fine motor skills but is steadily improving. Also some things were noted in classroom obs. about him wandering (which the teacher said thats the way he transitions to diff activities is he wanders off and joins when hes ready, what???)

And I said id like to send a request for a speech assessment because his GARS test indicated (on mine and teachers) below average in communication AND the KSEALS indicated below average in receptive speech. They said they need to convene a MET meeting first to see if they will evaluate but then the psych asked me if she wanted her to do the screening (again screening which is what i DONT want) cuz if i want an assessment i have to wait till the fall when the speech therapist is back at work. Is this true??? I think not because they have 60 days once i send out my authorization and request letter for it AND i already requested he be evaluated in speech (the psych said the kseals is not a speech assessment but an ed. one soooo.)

They denied ESY but me and his teacher brought up that he does regress during vacation breaks etc. and Im sure I could have gotten him ESY because they were thinking about it when we brought this up but I just agreed to put him into the community programs during the summer (hes in karate, therapy already but ill get him into the library program and arts progrom and swimming lessons etc.) I like this better cuz i think hel respond with an IEP without ESY but they said they will keep it in mind for next year too because he shows he may regress.

O and for reading pullouts he will be with one other kid which i think will be fine but what do u think? They said the kid is sweet and will also be a good role model behaviorally for him.

So basically IM happy with it but what do i know! I am still going to request an OT and SPEECH evaluation because i see things that do not add up or not done how i requested anyway. Also I am going to see how he does with his morning transition goal and if it goes bad im just going to request an FBA as well even tho they tried telling me to wait till next year they will do one if things dont go so good which im assuming they wont initially at least. He should have had an FBA awhile ago anyway and i know its my fault.

Anywho sorry for the novel let me know if there are problems u see here. His teachers so nice despite our past 'squables' or feelings of need for my son she asked for my number because i told her im worried aout next year how he will respond without her (he loves her, most days anyway lol)and she said to call her over the summer and wel get together for lunch or shel come and watch him at karate or something. I just found out she goes to our church too (we bumped into eachother) so im sooo thankful i never went off on her, not good period for the school relationship and not to mention not a good representation of my faith!

ETA: Sorry i really did try to summarize here and it STILL came out a novel!

The IEP sounds good to me.  I'd push for the OT and speech testing.  My eldest son was never properly tested for motor skills, and I suspect that it was because the district's physical therapists didn't have time for kids who weren't physically handicapped, and if they didn't test, they wouldn't have to deal with the test results and actually provide services.

My eldest son has always had one-on-one pullouts, and last year he complained about lack of contact with other kids.  This year he had two hours with another student and only one teacher.  This did not work out well at all because he didn't like the subject and it was at the end of the day.  The result was he'd try to run off.  I guess my point is that sharing pullouts is positive socially, but my son seems to need his own adult to deal with behavior issues.

All kids are going to regress academically somewhat in the summer.  Are you worried about academic regression or something else?  I think a summer with new challenges can be a positive thing.  I hope it works out.

Good luck with everything.

Thanks Foxl

Norwaymom, I def am going to push for them. Im not sure if there were points in the screening that should have warranted further OT testing since they skipped over that part during the meeting and i read it myself today and they couldnt find the ot screening. There have been quite a few important things that I noticed they keep leaving out in the millions of new and updated copies i get from them and i always have to have them correct it.  As for him working with another kid i honestly dont know for sure how thats going to go, im optimistic but i know my son can have issues if not throwing a fit about having the other kid it may getting hyped up or not focusing, not sure. I guess we will see!

As far as the regression weve seen it has been over weekends or whole week holidays etc. Its behaviorally as well as academically and I was also referring to regression from report card to report card where it shows on the progress reports attached that he has forgotten things he knew last semester etc. I personally think the IEP will help and he may not need ESY if i work alot with him over summer, if he does then at least i know we have it noted on his IEP now.

Thanks!
