Dr finally prescribed Rx for sleep!!!

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

I am so excited/nervous/happy that my son's pediatrician finally prescribed my 4 year old Risperdol. I am so excited to start it to see if it helps with his massive sleep issues- we are waking up every night for 2-4 hours, crying inconsolable. I am praying this Rx ill help with sleep as well as other behaviors.

Any experiences with Risperdol- side effects? My son is 4.5 years and weighs 50 pounds and is 45 inches tall. He started him on 0.5 mg a day (to be taken at night). Does it come in a liquid form? Thanks

I don't have any experience with this medication but I know lots of posters on this board have used this.   I hope it helps and everyone can get some good sleep.

drmomtojoe39910.5836921296I had one DS on it for over a year, other DS has been on it for a very long time.  Not sure if it comes in a liquid, but you can crush it and put it in juice, applesauce, pudding, ice cream, whipped cream.  No experience, but I hope it helps you get some sleep!

My dd is on 2.0 ml at night and .75 in the morning.  While it does help her to fall asleep right away, it doesn't keep her asleep.  She still gets up around the 3 am mark and stays up.

Risperdal does come in liquid.

For some reason I can't find an edit button but I just wanted to add that my daughter did start out at 0.5 also.  She is 9 yo and about 80 pounds.  We have increased every month. My son has been on it for about 3 years.  The first thing we noticed was that it really helped his sleep.  You can get it in a liquid form. we just mix it in with applesauce. good luck, I hope it works for you.

My son was on it 2 years ago. We used to put it in applesauce and that worked really well, just keep an eye out for weight gain. My son was only on it for a short period and he gained weight so quickly.

We are on this but not for sleep ... I know sleep is a side affect for it and is does come in liquid form.

What we have found to help for the up in the night screaming and un able to be calmed is trazodon. Just an idea is this doesn't help :) This also has fewer possable side effects.

This does come in liquid.
