Weighted vests...where to buy? This is supposed to be a great and reasonably priced site... http://www.saltoftheearthweightedgear.com/I-WEIGHTED-VESTS.h tml We ended up ordering my son a Benik (pressure vest) instead of weighted for a number of reasons... its been great for him on so many levels... http://www.benik.com/peds/trunk/v-200 The price isn't all that much different.
If you don't mind me asking, what were your reasons for getting the pressure vest instead? I have seen some of these online too and am wondering which is better. Obviously I will check with her OT before making any decisions seemed to make him a little less hyper and stimmy. His teachers used it when he was doing one on one work at the table with them. We have not used one in a few years, but they were certainly helpful when we needed it. I'm sorry, I don't really understand this. What exactly does a weighted vest do and how does it work? Do all the kids benefit from using one? Thanks. Grammy
Boohbah, I sent you a PM :)i have a weighted blanket that i love to sleep with .i didnt like how the weighted vest flet i ytu it at ot once .Hi! We have had a "loaner" vest from EI for a few weeks now and it is really making a difference when Katelyn is hyper and overstimmy. The one they gave us is a little big on her and it is not "attractive," not that that is the most important thing or anything. But I am considering buying her one that she could wear out in public, especially since I am not sure how long we can borrow the one from EI (and then she will need one for preschool in July anyway). If I had a sewing machine, I'd consider making one myself, but unfortunately my sewing machine is from when I was in 7th grade and it is broken Do any of you know where a good place to buy one is? I see a bunch of different places with different prices online, but I wanted to check with you all first since I am not 100% impressed with any that I see. I saw on ebay that some people custom make them with different fabrics, which would be cool, but again, I'm not sure if that is a good way to go. Thanks for your help! Shannon Thank you both! I asked one of Katelyn's ABA therapists this morning about getting a vest and she said to make sure I do NOT get one that has designs on it or characters, etc., because it will overstimulate Katelyn. I didn't even think of this! She is so right...Katelyn would get very stimmy. I'm better off getting her a plain one. I will check out the link, thanks! And I also will check with friends/family to see if anyone can make her one. I have a friend that got hers off of ebay. My son has one that a friend gaveus. She bought a simple vest from LLbean and then added weights to the pockets, and I think sewed some into the hem. Anyway, it just looks like a fishing type vests and works really well. Do you have any friends that sew? Harriet
?
If you don't mind me asking, what were your reasons for getting the pressure vest instead? I have seen some of these online too and am wondering which is better. Obviously I will check with her OT before making any decisions My son is VERY low tone, has poor muscle strength, and fatigues easily so putting a weighted vest onto him just melted him to the floor. The input was good for him but his body just couldn't function with it on. Also, the pressure vest provides extra support for his trunk... this allows him to feel more confortable with his body in space and enables him to use his upper body which he often choses not to do. |
