Regression Help

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

OK- our child was diagnosed at age 2.  He made steady progress for almost three years.  He was really doing well - talking appropriately, following directions and starting to make friends.  Yes, he still needed intervention, but he had come a HUGE way.  Then, about 4 months ago, he got sick.  It seemed like any other virus, however, his functioning dropped off dramatically.  Now, he seems physically better, but his speech is blurred and inappropriate, he is uncooperative, aloof and sad.  He has had blood tests, an eeg, an MRI and a genetic screening, but everything came back negative.

Any ideas for what we can try?  Anyone ever heard of this before? It hurts to see him like this.  It is like he is gone and in pain and we don't know how to help.

Thanks to everyone.  Thanks for being here.

I am so sorry you are going through that.  I wish I had some advice for you.  My dtr also had a very significant regression when she got sick about a year ago.  Her speech went all the way back to echolalia.  The only thing in our case is it did come back within 4-5 months. We tested with an EEG among other things and got no answers.

This is scary ---  T is doing this now, after a severe cough and virus last week.  She is acting very spacey and quiet, almost punchy when she wakes up.  Not her usual animated happy self, at all!

My husband was panicking over her, all weekend.
