worried about DS blood test result It was a yearly routine blood test and that came up. TI am not in a medical field, but ... WHY did they check his liver enzymes? They typically check them because they are monitoring in the case of medication use? Office "nurses," typically have 0 - 6 months of training. Call the doctor and ask for a medical opinion on the elevation! Meanwhile do not panic. Lots of things affect liver enzymes. My ds (8) had a routine blood test done and the nurse said that his liver levels were elevated so I have to call my other doctor now. He has been on Zoloft for a few years now and she said that should not be causing it so I am pretty nervous. Has this happened to anyone? Thanks Marie DS 8 PDD/NOS, OCD, ODD, SID Yellow - when my dd had her blood work last year before her surgery the surgeon called the day before her operation to tell me that they could not operate because her liver enzymes were so high she was not a candidate for surgery. I was so alarmed and didn't know what to do. (I even came here and asked if anyone knew what might be causing this.) Well, we redid the bloodwork and it turned out to be a lab error! She was fine and had her surgery. I would ask to speak to the doctor and of course ask to have the bloodwork repeated. Please don't panic. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Have it rechecked. My dh went to up his life insurance and the test results came back so bad for his liver enzymes that he had to go get a biopsy. They said he probably had liver disease and it could be fatal etc etc. He was literally laying on the table for a biopsy draped and iv'd and the dr. came in and said his labwork retest from a few days before came in and the levels were within normal, so no biopsy and no liver failure. It turns out it was likely due to a herbal cold prevention medicine (airborne) and he was taking it daily thinking it would ward off colds as a maintence. I think you're supposed to give echinacea a chance to get out of your system after a few weeks. Is your child taking any vitamins or supplements that could cause that? We did a round of Diflucan and her liver enzymes went up (AST). We stopped the Diflucan and they went down (fast). Look carefully at the things he is taking. Our kids are very sensitive.Donette -- Diflucan is notorious for raising liver enyzmes -- which is why they test them. ALL anti-fungals are. Which is why I am sitting here with a lousy case of nail fungus.![]() |
