Thank YouI've also encountered those people who have "educated" me about curing my daughter. Most days I just smile and nod my head. These people don't understand my daughter's brain is wired differently and all the therapies, diets and supplements in the world are not going to change this. Yes, I am doing everything I can that will help her, but I know they will never cure her. I used to get frustrated too, but I've learned to ignore other's opinions and recommendations - except of course if they're coming from another parent of an ASD child. Hang in there Momma! Personally ... my daughter cannot be recovered ... because everyone tells ME there is NOTHING WRONG WITH HER. Ya cannot win. it like my friend who deaf she can hear prety ok with her high power hearing aids that dosnt mean she a hearing person .cuse when she take them off she tottly deaf .same thing with autism we can learn coping skills to over come stuff but it dosnt go awayDon't TALK to these people. If you MUST keep them in your life, tell them that this is simply a closed topic. Walk away if you have to. Those around you are either part of the solution or are contributing to the problem. You have enough to deal with without "friends" dragging you down. (((HUGS)))Hi, I also agree you cannot cure auttism..if you are dx with it there is no cure from it.That is the hardest thing to accept. I also get tired of hearing about how someone is cure from it, maybe then the dx was wrong. If there was a magic shot for it I would stand in the line to get it, just to make my sons life eaisier.
I too believe in no recovery just treat the symptoms........... my son will NEVER be normal- I am hopig he will be high functioning enough that he can blend into society, go to college, get married, tc.- but recovery no. I am optomistic about his future- but realistic as well.
This is exactly how I feel about Katelyn. I too believe in no recovery just treat the symptoms........... my son will NEVER be normal- I am hopig he will be high functioning enough that he can blend into society, go to college, get married, tc.- but recovery no. I am optomistic about his future- but realistic as well. You have to go with what you believe but what about those moms whose children have recovered? What about those whose children are not recovered but the parents believe they will recover? Why would that upset you? Just a different opinion.... How about this little boy, who seems perfectly typical to me. It shows him when he is little so you can't refute his diagnosis. It shows him as an older boy in school and you can't see the autism he once had. It shows his therapist and teacher telling the truth--this boy is recovered from autism. I am so grateful for this mom to post his story. If you have hope of recovery, don't lose it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w95eB6qQubw&feature=chann el I agree nothings wrong with believing in recovery, its HOPE and sometimes ALL that gets CERTAIN people thru the day and there have been cases. Also there are prob more than one type of autism (they def need to figure all this out but no one knows for sure not even the experts) and maybe the recovered kids have a certain type? Nobody knows. I wouldnt be happy to tell someone thier child cannot be recovered because it doesnt exist. Has anyone watched the movie Lorenzos oil? These parents never gave up even as thier kid was hooked up to breathing tubes and dying because of all his loss of functions because of ALD and they tried all kinds of biomed things, just everything and they found something that is RECOVERING thier son! He is still alive and once about to loose all functions and die he can now type and breath and move alittle. His parents got the 'cure' too late obviously to stop what the disease did to him but have stopped the progression and is recovering him but there are a ton of kids that take this medicine now (in a study 83 out of 120 kids with ALD have no symptoms of the deadly disease) and they dont have to end up like thier son (who btw was still alive and improving last time i checked). If the Lorenzo Odones parents lost hope and said ther IS no recovery then thier son would be dead long ago and all the other kids who are on the medication would prob all be dead as well. Even if everyone here hates me for writing this STILL check out the movie Lorenzos oil, its great and one of my favorites. O yes and duh i didnt mention its a TRUE story. Also i forgot to add that i totally think its mean for people to talk to u about curing ur son like its simple as giving him antibiotics. They dont know what thier talking about at all i cant stand people like that. But i dont think we should just accept theres NO recovery or try to bring people down who have hope (not saying anyone here does but let people keep believing and dont let it bother u). |
