| diagnosis paperwork lost
hi, I am new to hear. I was diagnosed with autism in 3rd grade after a battery of testing that stated in 1st grade, since that elementary school could not handle my case they had me transfered to a different elementary school. about when I was 18 and going through ged I got a chance read to read my IEP, I noticed it was veage and never mentioned what I was diagnosed with. I asked my mom what I was diagnosed with and the only paperwork she could find was of my ADD. she knew I diagnosed with something else but suppressed it and could not remember it. since a friend with aspergers asked me if I had autism when I had a meltdown before, I decided to find out what autism was. I ask my mom again if it was autism and she said yes. I have gone through several temp agency's to try and get a job, but some how managed to get fired from easy job because I got bored. one of them I had to quit before I ate food off the packaging line that I don't like. by the time I was 21 I decided to go trough mers goodwill to get help to get a job, they could not find any of the paperwork from my diagnosis when they had to find my IEP. they help me out a lot but I could not always be able to get out to the building maintenance. so it fell trough and I am back being a on call mechanic with out much work lined up. I will be 24 this year and I need to move out. how should I go about finding my diagnosis paperwork, so try and apply for SSI I dont know how you can get ur IEP papers and I just read at the bottom of one of my sons paperwork from the school that special education records are shredded after 3 years the child leaves school so unless u have it now maybe u cannot get it? BUT i have also heard they keep sp ed/school records on microfilm. Im sure someone else will come along that will help u out alot better than i am!
Maybe you can go to a psychiatrist and get a medical diagnosis. From what i know school diagnosis are only used in school and a child dxed with autism by the school may or may not even have autism so having a medical diagnosis to back it up so u can recieve services (which sounds like the different programs want from u?) would prob help alot more. Im not sure tho?
Good luck and i hope u can find a job u like!
ETA: btw posting this in the education or parents of children with autism section will give you alot more feedback and advice, thats where people will see it more. 143hayden39883.4133333333 |
