Hi, My aunt offered to get a child locator for Katelyn and Ashley for their birthdays and I was wondering if any of you have them? She mentioned the Brickhouse model, which is the one seen in the Duracell commercial. I think this would be a good idea to get, but I wanted to check with you all on your opinions first, as usual So far, Katelyn is not a runner at all...she stays right with me, but I know that could change at any time. Hmm, we have thought about it, but have not at this point. My son is a runner. Generally we have to house in a total lockdown and the dog is trained to tell me if he gets loose and track him down. I would be interested to hear what others have to say.Harriet We don't have one--when Jacob was younger he ran alot. We just put alarms on the doors. Our friends have one for their 8y son, non-verbal. It is connected to the police immediately. It's some GPS thing and I think they have to pay monthly. They've have to call the police a few times in his life--one time while visiting Washington D.C. The only issue they have is their boy cuts it off of his ankle every day!! I have one who will wear a medic alert bracelet and one who won't keep on anything. My suggestion to you is no matter what method you use, start early and stay consistent. Medic alert said they can make it super strong so he can't pull it off. If she grows up thinking she has to wear it all the time, then she'll leave it alone as she gets older. Maybe get two, as our problem came when it was time to get it made bigger. We took it off and waited too long to get it back on. If it is a big problem get her used to it during long sleeve season. We purchased the Brickhouse model a couple of years ago, and honestly we could never get it to work, it was a huge waste of money. They even gave us a replacement, and that never worked. My dh has an electronics background, so it's not that we didn't know what we were doing. I think the concept is great, it just didn't work for us. Our local police department have their own version, where you rent the unit, and they come out once a month to replace the batteries. Cost is on a sliding scale. It may be worth checking into what's available locally before purchasing. |
