A study recently published in the medical journal Pediatrics found a way to reliably divide children with autism into two genetic categories. Something known as the "MET C allele" was found in children with autism who ALSO had gastrointestinal trouble. The allele was not found in children with autism who did not have gastrointestinal trouble. Read a layman article on it here: http://www.babycenter.com/204_gene-variant-links-autism-gast rointestinal-problems_10310183.bc Read the abstract here: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/1 23/3/1018
Here's another article on it: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/03/090302090222.ht m Fascinating ... and sure explains a LOT of observations, here! Like, GF/CF is usually wonderful, or utterly ineffective.Yes, interesting indeed . . . my dd definitley had GI problems particulary during the 18mo. - 3yr time period. Thanks for posting Norway. ttfn Very interesting. My son had horrible GI problems until he was about 4.Though we did the diet religiously, over an extended period, it did not make any difference. Isn't it funny how it works for some kids and not for others? Harriet |
