Welcome Marta.  I also have a 3 year old daughter diagnosed with PDD-NOS and this board has been a life saver for me.

Oh - your Marina is just beautiful!

Welcome. I think all of us can relate how hard it is to finally fully realize that ones child has a disability even if we had suspected for a while. This board is great- ask anything and someone will know or have an idea. And everyone here understands.

I had just talked to a childhood friend who now works as an autism specialist in Germany and she had many great things to say about how the schoolsystem in the Netherlands handles inclusion. Made me want to move there.

Oh yes Micki, the school system here, especially the special schools, is AMAZING!!! I hope Mina can get into MKD (Medical Kids Daycenter) very soon. 6 kids 3 teachers per group.

Hi, Marta! Welcome to the board! As a previous poster said, your daughter is beautiful!

My son is 13, ASD, and has made great improvement over the years. It is wonderful that your daughter will be getting early intervention. I'm sure she will progress beautifully, as well.

So glad to have you hear!

Betty

Welcome!Welcome to the forum! As people wake up here in the US - I'm sure you will get many more welcomes. There are a lot of resources and supportive people - you have come to the right place! Welcome to the forum, anyone who wants to learn more about Autism, or can help with Autism is welcome on this site. Your daughter is beautiful. Join in whenever you wish. I have a 14 year old son with Aspergers syndrome, dyspraxia and Learning Disabilities.  Hi, My name is Marta. I'm 30 years old. I live in the Netherlands. We have only 1 child. Marina is 3 years old. She doesn't have a diagnose yet. She have had 2 observations so far and on the 2nd one the doctor told me off record he suspects light version of autism.
We have suspected that for a while now. When she turned 2, we sent her to pre-school. In half a year she said only 2 words there (she is brought up in English-me and Dutch-dad but doesn't seem to have problems communicating with us). She didn't want to play with kids alone, and most of the time sat by herself in a corner. She kinda didn't "see" the teacher. They let a speech therapist test her, and her score was very low. We removed her from the preschool and tried to socialize her more on our own. In that half a year a lot of people, also strangers, came to us and told us our child behaves strange. They couldn't really put a finger on it.
Marina walks on tiptoes and flaps her hands, repeats herself, is overemotional, has language delay, makes strage noises, throws frequent tantrums, meltdowns, sleeping problems, needs me to be with her all the time and left alone will close herself in her own world, doesn't play any imaginative game with her toys, asks those obvious questions "what does Mina have in her hand?".
There are more symptoms, those are just from the top of my head. 3 weeks ago when we actually realised it probably is autism, we started googling and bought some books and we suddenly "SAW" so many things strange in our child, that it pretty much overwhelmed us.
We took the online test from this page and it came mild autism (score:80).
I hope you will accept me as your member and I'll do my best to share all my knowladge with you and hope to learn more about this disorder from you.
/Marta
