Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)?

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

Anyone have any experience with this behavioral approach for ODD?  We're not sure our son even has ODD, but the developmental ped thinks so and sent us off for PCIT as a high priority.  We discussed PCIT with the counselor (MFT) this evening who does the therapy - many of the behaviors associated with PCIT really describe a part of who our son is which often looks defiant and difficult.  However, the MFT doesn't know much about ASDs, seemed very concerned when we described our son's list of behaviors (there's this debate, you see, about whether or not he's actually on the spectrum or not), and really seemed skeptical about whether or not she wanted to take us on as clients at least in part because of the long list of issues our son has.  She's going to reach out to her community and ask...thought it best to ask this gathered community.

Our son currently has a dx of ODD, MSDD, SID, and severe S/L delays.  He is 4 1/2 years old.  We don't think that we're to the bottom of what's wrong with him but after looking at the therapy for the first time, thought it was at least worth a try.  Even if it fails, it provides one more data point that there's more going on than what the doctors can determine.  And quite honestly, we've got to try something
