Hi, all! I started to post this on the general forum, but decided it would be better to post here. Last night while watching PBS' American Ballroom Dance Competition, my ds became quite enthralled with it, to my surprise. What surprised me even more, though, was when he said, in his sweet little voice that sounds so much younger than his age (I have a hard time thinking of him as 13), "I wish I could dance." "I wish I could dance like that. If I had someone to dance with...." So I asked if he wanted to take lessons and he said, "Yeah, Mom, if I have someone to dance with?" as a question. I'm seriously thinking of seeing if there are classes around for his age or level, etc., but the only ones for ballroom dancing I've seen in the paper I imagine are for adults. Has anyone else's child expressed an interest in dancing? Have you had any experience with it? Should I take him to the regular classes if there aren't special ones? The paper says it's for all levels from beginner on. How do you think other people who are beginners might react to him? I want to let him try this, I just am not sure if it is "do-able". Any suggestions? You'll never know until you try, especially since your son has expressed an interest. And it doesn't hurt to check it out, maybe they have a free trial or something. Maybe you could sign up for classes with him, if that would make your son more comfortable. I would try it. If there is more than one studio, call around and see which one would be most willing to work with him. Maybe bringing him to see the studio and the instructors before the classes would help see which would be the best fit. |
