met with the school district KindergartenHe is 5, but will be starting Kindergarten in the fall right after he turns 6 (August baby). He has Asperger's, and has excellent speech in terms of vocabulary and pronunciation of sounds. Although he does mispronounce several words like 'breakfix' (breakfast), 'mavnik' (magnet) and others. Mainly, I believe pragmatics is where he has issues - and I'm hoping the speech eval looks into that sort of thing as well, not just how well he speaks. I'm excited and nervous too. I'm glad to get the ball rolling - but I'm scared that he will fall between the cracks since he is high functioning. We're at the same stage getting ds ready for kindergarten next year. He had his ST evaluation already. I was worried because he had a cold that day, but dh was at the evaluation and said that the ST shold have gotten a pretty accurate picture of ds's abilities. We're scheduling his OT eval now and are still waiting to hear from the school district about his PT eval and a meeting with the psychologist. I want them to finish the evals quickly so we can start talking about placement for next year. A year ago, I was apprehensive when I thought about him going to kindergarten, but this year I think he will be ready as long as he has the propoer supports. Keep me updated on your progress! Becky |
