Our son is being evaluated for kindergartent next year. The school dsitrict is evaluating him for speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and he is going to meet with a psychologist. We are hoping to continue his home ABA (Verbal Behavior) program, but during the transition meeting, his future program was not discussed, it was just a time to sign forms giving permission to evaluate. I was just speaking wtih a parent in a neighboring school district who mentioned that his son is also being evaluated for ABA. It didn't occur to me that ds would need an additional evaualtion for ABA. Did we miss something? Should I contact the school district and ask them to add in an evaluation for ABA? Thanks! One of the most critical pieces of information will be a written report from his current VB provider about his continued NEED for these services. If you can presnt this recommendation in writing now to the District and request an evaluation for ABA services, they have to evaluate in that area, too. If a child NEEDS a therapy that is given outside the school day but is necessary for his educational progress, extended day services can be put on the IEP. Data showing his progress with VB will be critical to this decision. In cases where school districts strongly resist this (not unusual), getting an advocate to help may become necessary. Good luck.I never heard of this about ABA services provided by the school, is this if your child is going to a typical school? We have agencies in our area that provide ABA and have Tss that go to school with my kids but can you ask the district to provide ABA in school? Sorry if i Hijacked your post.Lovingmyangel, I know families who live in our district who have home ABA programs while their kids attend the public school. The school district pays for them, but the ABA is provided by private providers. Our son currently attends a private pre-K and has a home ABA program. We are hoping to keep the program going in kindergarten and keep working with the same provider for ABA. I contacted the school district about getting an ABA evaluation. They told me that the psychologist who evaluates ds will contact our current ABA provider to get information to help make the decision about providing ABA. We will then discuss this option when we have a meeting to go over his evaluation results. I am going through the same thing so should i write to the district about getting the school to give her ABA services. We pay for services through Medical Assistance though and the Tss goes to the school and we have home services. |
