When you enter your dependents using TurboTax, it asks if the dependent is disabled. My son receives the medicaid health insurance via an income waiver program and is considered developmentally disabled. (We do not receive SSI for him because my husband and I are both employed.) Do we answer "yes" that this depedent is disabled? My employer health insurance is primary and medicaid picks up the remainder....I think that question is meant primarily for parents supporting older disabled adult children. Yeah, I agree with Mattsmom. You get the standard tax deduction for children, but if your child is an adult still in your care and a dependent due to disability, then you can still claim them. At least, that's what I've been told. Maybe someone else knows more about it. |
