Focus

How is your child's focus? If the child has focus issues is it due to autism or is it maybe autism and ADHD? I am not so sure i want to try medicine for my 5 year old daughter but the focus is the big thing. She is focused when she's working at her table during ABA therapy but afterwards back to stimming and focusing on the computer or her toys etc. She wont answer to her name when she is focusing on something else but other times she looks at us just fine and wants to play. I don't know what to do and if medicine may help her but i am scared to put my child on a medicine at 5 years unless really necessary. School says she is doing good but i know she doesnt always answer to her name. She does listen because when i tell her we need to eat if she is focusing on something and it is something she wants to do she will tell me "yes eat" or "no eat". I am at a loss and i worry about her focus i want to help her the best way possible, anyone else going through this? This is a hard one, I'm new here too, my 2 year old has "selective" responses. i.e. the softest mention of his name sometimes makes him look up, and sometimes even loud mentions do not..
I wouldn't worry too much yet, the most important thing is that she is able to focus, either during ABA, or in the classroom.  If it changes then it may be time to consider meds for attention.

In the past 3 weeks my ds suddenly has become unable to focus, his teachers and therapists are all in agreement that he's practically lost his ability to focus, at best he's able to focus for 5-7 seconds at a time, and that's only for things he's interested in.

Being aware of it is good, and as your dd gets older her ability to focus may change, but as long as she is learning I wouldn't introduce meds.
