It has been a month now my son has been on the risperdal .25, it has done nothing for his attention or hyperactivity . so i requested the psch. give us something else she gave a RX for clonadine, so can anyone tell me of there experiences with this new med. We use it on D. We started with the pill, it slows his body down enough for his brain to catch up. We now use the patch form since it's a constant stream in his blood. He wears them for 6 days and gets a new one every 3 days. Otherwise you could watch his roller coaster of energy. OH i was wondering how i am going to get him to take the pill he is not good with pills the doc say i only have to give him half the pill at the lowest dose. when i get the perscription filled i guess i will see how big it is maybe i can dilute it.nothing so far has slowed him down so i will be very shock, if this works, but very hopeful. his brain has seem not to be working for the past 2years it has been just hyper jumping and running no time for anything and it kills me cause , its like he cant do anything but move and i know somewhere in him he can do more.when he was younger like age 3,he was making such promising strides and since 4yrs i notice changes but never thought it would come to this. We crush everything up and put it in about a tablespoon of applesauce, pudding, ice cream. You can also put it in juice. DH used to hide them in skittles. I don't know about the new med, but I know a little about Risperdal. It's not meant for hyperactivity. It's meant for behavioral issues. The dose your son is on is very, very small. For hyperactivity, typically stimulants are given. Hope the new med works. My son took clonodine for 5 years. It disolves in liquid very easily (do not have to crush). Worked like a charm. Also known to have little to no side effects, so it is often prescribed to children. Do not have to have periodic blood tests either, like many other meds. I think you'll both be pleased. i just wanted to mentioned he is only getting 0.1 and i have to break it in half for 7-14 days and then she said i cant give him the whole pill but 1/2 in the AM and the other 1/2 in the PM. so far the other meds at minimum doses did not work so i will give it to him from tomorrow i am afraid to start in the afternoon. because both the pharmacist and the psy. kept stress him blood pressure could drop if i don't do this right or something so now i am just a bit nervous. i sure hopes this little bit could have some kind if effect positively. I have experience with both meds. My son started Risperdal at 5y. He was on about 1mg--and he was a little, skinny thing-Maybe 50# (I don't remember). It is used for aggressive behaviors and violence. Miracle drug for us! He is 9y now and maxed out at 3mg---80#. Your dose is VERY small. Clonidine--my dd was on it for sleep. It is a med for blood pressure--with the side effect of sleepiness. It worked for my dd for about 1 week. Then nothing. She wasn't on it very long. I didn't even know it was used for ADHD. My son uses Strattera for his ADHD symptoms. Works great! He can't take any stimulant meds. well i gave him his 1st dose this am now he is home from school bouncing off the walls literally. it was too much so when i checked his note book the teacher said he came off the bus sleepy and then slept till 11am, she said they tried and he could not keep his eyes open basically so far day 1 is sleepiness. he was never really aggressive by the way i saw it a bit of aggression come out with the methalyn . but now i am worried this might not work either and the doc did mention maybe stimulant med will not work for him either. Ask the doctor why he is prescribing Risperdal for hyperactiivity instead of the more traditional drugs. Risperdal often causes sleepiness in the beginning but then this can level off. thanks Tzoya ! I think the risperdal was to fix what the methylin created, cause at 1st she was going to give nothing then she realize he was uncontrolable when he is having a melt down instead of going back to his norm so then i guess she thought risperdal, but now after bout a month on that she decieded i could try something else for ADHD, so here we are. |
