Update: party we went to was great!

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

I posted earlier this week that I totally dreaded this birthday party we were invited to for today as it was going to be full of normal kiddos and none of them had seen Lucas in a while- but he had a ball and did great! He interacted more than I have ever seen him do at any birthday party- he watched him open gifts, he watched him blow out candles, and he ate chips and some ice cream. He even got to ride on a fire truck! he had a great time and so did I- it was no neat to have him there, having fun and amazing everyone with his spelling skills.
I think the key was it was indoors, everyone there knew him and that he is autistic, and that he had his beloved letters to play with so he felt at home and comfortable. I don't hink I will ever dread a NT child's party again!

Hey Sweetie' That is cool!

Read my post under your previous thread.

My thoughts were spot on.That's great!  I am so happy for you.

That's awesome! I'm glad it went well. Very glad to hear this.  HOwever, NEVER be overconfident. EVery time I get casual and fail to prepare properly for a social situation, things bomb. When I over prepare, I never seem to need all that preparation!  But woe is me if I neglect it.  Now, invite people over to your house with their kids (NT or ASD or any kind) and get your boy used to having people in HIS space.I am so glad it workd out for you..
Toyza is right about planning for the next adventure.I'm so glad it went so well for you, I know you were really worried! I too agree with Tzoya, but hopefully this is just the beginning of a lot of great birthday parties and other events for your DS!So glad you had a good experience!I'm so happy for you both.  Glad things went well and you were actually able to enjoy the time.
