RANT: is his butt broken?

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

...cause my 4 year-old son doesn't seem to want to sit on it!!! When he does sit he usually has his legs splayed out in an uncomfortable position underneath. We try to get him to sit criss-cross, but it's kinda like making an origami crane.

I guess it's to be expected: the kid's so skinny he doesn't have much of a butt to begin with. Sometimes I wonder if he even realizes he has one. If he did, maybe potty training would be easier! As it stands now he could fall right through the seat but is too big for a baby seat anymore.

Sorry, folks. 3.5 hours a sleep a night for the past 2 months and posting before the first cup of coffee tends to make me a bit punchy and daft.

understandable.

Get him a PT eval through the school. What you describe is a common, immature position.  Potty training has nothing to do with it. It's not at all unusual for kids with ASD to not get potty trained until age 5 or later.  Even verbal ones. The second the PT eval Neil. Try and get some rest. You're missing the point, folks. I was trying to be humorous here. I was playing on my kid's skinny stature. Potty training is actually going pretty well. He's not going pee on the potty voluntarily, but he will usually go if I take him in and sit him on the seat. He'll even pee standing up for me. As for #2, the smearing incidents seem to have abated and he's actually gone from hiding in some corner to poop his pants to actually going into the bathroom to poop in his pants. He won't let me come in with him but afterward he'll call me in to help him clean up. So he's not fully potty trained but it IS progress and that's HUGE so I'll take it FWIW.  w00t! Congrats on the potty training!

(Cute initial post! I got what you were going for. I sometimes wonder if their butts are broken too.)

lol it sounds like ur having more luck with ur child then i am with my 4 yr ol that is not the autistic one on polly training. hehe..what's worse, i'm not a coffee drinker..HELP!!  take it easyMy 3 year old's butt has been broken for years.  He never sits on it unless he is in his glider chair and that is for a limited time to and it needs to be moving.
Thanks for the hopes with PT we are just starting and have had a few successes.  I know it will be a long haul but it might just work out.
