My Greatest Success...

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

Hello everyone!

My name is Loren John Presley. I'm a young adult with autism and thought I'd share my personal story, which involves my greatest triumph!

As a child with autism, I was often confused and upset with how sometimes everything seemed to work against me. Many of my school peers shunned me, teased me, and many of my teachers didn't know what to do with me. I had, of course, my handful of loyal friends and all my teachers did their best with me.

Then my dad decided to buy a book for me about Albert Einstein. This was before anyone in my family even knew what autism was, but my dad could see that I had a great mind and also that I was misunderstood...just like I learned Albert Einstein was especially in his young life. I decided I didn't care anymore about what people said about me. I was going to be me!

Then, as I grew into adolescence, I was hit by a grave depression, because of a chemical imbalance in my brain. It was an abyss! None of the things I used to love helped me anymore! I looked at my reflection in the mirror and I saw someone I didn't recognize! Having autism didn't help, as I was unable to let go of many of the issues that caused my mental pain. My mind spun! I became fatigued. Eventually I lost all hope that I would ever be me again! That child I once was, who was always content and full of promise...

But somewhere deep down
, that child in me was still fighting! He was ready to come back and let me be myself again! He wouldn't give up no matter what!

And also, somewhere out there was a kind of magic that helped revitalized me in the midst of my pain...

So here I am today. That child in me was victorious! My depression is gone. My autism gives me insight and a unique perspective, rather than succumb to my nightmares as it once had.

Best of all, I am a proud author of two published books!

The Anastasia Project: A young adult book about a dolphin who becomes stranded on another world. This special story to me, is inspired by my journey through depression and my undying will to return to my happiness again!

Starship One: Another young adult book about three friends who discover a hidden ride in a theme park...a ride that holds untold dangers and a breathtaking journey alike. This story is a testament to that magic that revitalized me, and helped me to live my dreams again!

Both stories are available through Amazon.com, although The Anastasia Project will soon have a second edition.

So that's my success story. It's my signature story, and its my testament to everyone's fight for hope!
