Today we were working on some math "homework" for my ds. Usually, I sit right by him and make sure he is following the directions and staying on task. Today, I took a more "hands-off" approach and was doing other things while he was doing his homework. I checked in periodically to make sure he was answering the questions correctly. There was one page where it was a picture. Each part of the picture had an addition problem in it. There was a color key and whatever your sum was - you colored that piece a certain color (kind of like color by number). I figured I would have to sit down with him for that one. But, he read me the color key and started doing all the addition problems. All I needed to do was ask him what he needed to do next a few times - and at the end he had missed one balloon so I asked if he had colored in all of the balloons, to check and make sure. Even a month ago, I'm not sure he could have done all of that with limited supervision. So, I was VERY happy that he was able to do all of that - and without fighting me on doing it to begin with - woohoo! I think having time off from school definitely helps him relax and not feel as much pressure in schoolwork - and maybe a bit more confident as well! That is great news! Way to go little guy! Harriet WOW! Good for him! T gets those color-keyed math probs a lot. She hates them for some reason. Congrats! Hope he continues with this successful homework trend!Awesome! It's so nice to just supervise homework---rather than teaching it--- when your little one is independent enough to figure it out. This is Daniel's best area ,I suggest using hand on ways to teach this. Good News snoopywoman, I think he is on his way. Wahoo! |
