Good Xmas poem: Walk in my shoes

What a great poem! Thanks for sharing.
HarrietI loved this -- there was much familiarity in it!

I loved it! A woman I work with, who works most of the overnight shifts--we were talking about our lives last night. She has a son with severe autism, and her family has pretty much just blown her off--both sides; immediate and inlaws. She has no friends because she has two with challenges (even though her first is going to college and doing well). She can't get a good, paying job because of her need to be home all the time with her son while her husband goes to work. She works at our place, so the money is horrible but, at least she is close to home and with understanding people that know that, if she has to run home, she can.

Sadly, this poem is our world. Yet, it isn't so sad when we look at the things we take enjoyment in--they  mean more than so many other things. I remember my heart just soaring when Taylor used her Springboard to communicate. I don't think anyone outside of our little family here would understand that, if they didn't understand what we go through as parents of challenged kids.

I don't know where this autism poem originally was posted, but it was supposedly written by C. Waeltermann in 2007.  I don't know if it's copyrighted, but I'd rather give a link to it than post it without permission here on our forum.

You can read it at this website (among others).  Take a look.  I really liked it.
