Ds's teacher gave an assignment to study any topic for 10 hours and then give a 10 minute presentation to the class (mainstream 3rd grade). I worked with him on his topic but I was to anxious to watch him present in school. He spent much of last year yelling at kids and getting overwhelmed in class and running out . But he did great. He read (yes-he started reading!!) his speech, explained the graph he made and then answered questions. Apparently he was so thrilled with his own success that he refused to leave the front of the class and kept pointing at people telling them to ask him more questions. I'm happy for him - he clearly needed some success. And it also helps that classmates and his teachers saw that he CAN do it. I think they often expect little from him. That's wonderful! Heck, in the third grade if I'd had to make a speech I'd have thrown up and run out of the room. I'm impressed!Wow, that's awesome! Wow, that is terrific! I don't think I could have done that in 3rd grade Way to go! And, how nice for the teacher and kids to see him in a new light.Harriet Fantastic! I read this and I think of myself in second and third grade, when my tearchers would allow me to present a short lesson on share day about human anatomy or the solar system (which were my aspie obsessions at the time). It's always wonderful to hear about young people on the spectrum who are given the love and attention they need from their family, teachers, and peers! Way to go! Sounds like your guy did a great job. You must be very proud!
I am proud with you all. Great job!Ya thats awsome, thats one of the hardest things too do in school I think. I hated having too do that, glad he handeled it well and perhapse even enjoyed it! |
