My son carries around groups of objects at a time (5 Littlest Pet Shop animals, 3 Blue's Clues stuffed toys, 2 Lightning McQueen's). Well for the last 3 days he insists on carrying around 3 Hippopotamous (from different sets) and one blue Cowboy figure. This is quite an anomaly for him....any ideas??
Oh, I don't have a problem with it at all. In fact, I've always been excited that he is so good at grouping! Maybe I explained it wrong.... His visual memory is excellent. So he groups together things with similar qualities (3 cars, 4 red objects, 3 triangles, 2 objects that are or have alligators on them). The reason this one is puzzling is that it's some hippopotomous (from different sets...so I'm so excited that he knows they are all the same because they don't look exactly alike) and one blue cowboy. I have no idea what the blue cowboy has in common with the hippopotomous....that was my question. I always like to look and see if he is making a connection between different objects and what that connection is. I can't figure this one out, so I thought I'd ask if anyone had any ideas. ;-) Modern day Little Bo Peep? But with hippos? Or maybe he and GW are the hippos and you are their cowboy? lol. Maybe the cowboy is like.. Dr Doolittle?btw your boys have the exact same nose. and that picture is just too freaking cute. Haha, I love your suggestions Roney!! Thanks! That pic is actually our Christmas card this year (I photoshopped a tree behind them and turned Jack's sleeves red). I love that he's smiling for the camera now (and you can't get GW to stop smiling, so he's easy)!! My son also carries multiples of things. It may change from day to day but he needs at least one for each hand. When he was little it used to be socks. Now a days it is teddy bears with long arms and legs or ropes to dangle. They used to take his ropes away from him when he went to elementry school, saying that they were odd and a distraction to other children. At his school now they allow it because they know if his hands are occupied he is not such a threat to anyone and if he starts chewing hard on them or would set them down , this is a sign to watch out.First of all, there are no silly questions.........My son is 12 and still carries objects with him.....I think it may be the sensation of just having somethin "solid" in his hands instead of them just feeling "empty with air".My boy is 6 and he does this too.He carries the Madagascar Lion,Zebra,Giraffe,Hippo,Monkey. He tries to take them with him to the store but I make him leave them in the car(he does not like that). The other day I found a small Boots(Doras Monkey freind) and Elmo,I said "Oh look what I found Boots and Elmo" I handed them to him,He kind of looked at me side ways and put them down as if to say" God Mom those are baby toys" He cracks me up,even though he is non verbal!! |
