Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone out there was from Boulder County Colorado and could tell me about the services they receive or a possible contact for an EI program that works with kids with ASD. Also how long did it take for you to receive an IFSP meeting or for services to commence as well as any information about fees. My son (20 months) was diagnosed last month with PDD-NOS and we are thinking of moving. We are currently living in New York City just can't afford it anymore! We pay $1400 a month for a tiny 2 bedroom apt with no nearby family. DS Will receives 10 hours of center therapy with transportation, 10 hours of home based ABA therapy, an hour of home based OT and 2 hours of home based Speech therapy. Also living in NYC we have no co pay for any of his therapy. Before making the decision as to if we are going to move or not I wanted to find out what the Colorado EI program is like and if the move is worth it for Will. Thanks in advance! -Crystal Stay away from Colorado! We were in New Jersey and had fabulous EI. We moved to CO right before our son's 3rd birthday. (He's 8 now.) We were offered 2 hours of therapy (not ABA they don't do that here). We told them all we got and they laughed. It took us 3 years to get off the wait list for Medicaid and therapy after his 3rd birthday and the services are still lacking. Colorado is 48th in the country for general ed funding and either 49th or 50th for special ed. It is getting worse. I hear the wait lists are even longer now. We tried to pass an amendment to get rid of the wait list but it failed miserably. Schools are not much better with sped programs. Colorado is not that cheap to leave in either. The weather is good, though. Most of urban/surburban Colorado is a glorified Long Island or Bergen County anyway. I am still beggin' my husband to go back... |
