(update) TWO WEEKS into ADHD meds

Well, we are one week into 20 mg Vyvanse ... and I DO NOT KNOW!

I think the side effects (insomnia, anorexia, mild complaints of tummyache) are diminishing.  She IS eating more and sleeping through the night.  Asked for pizza for breakfast.

I THINK I am seeing increased EF -- planning outfits, knowing where she left things, etc.

I THINK I am seeing improved attention when she reads for me.

I have a feeling this is going to be a long-term question.   No word from teachers, yet, either.

ADHD-inattentive is so much more subtle than the HI (impulsive) type!  ACK.  But if the side effects continue to diminish, I think we will stick it out for a bit.

foxl39784.3222569444Sometimes it's hard to tell. If it's not a med that has to build up in her system you could always give her a med break on a weekend and tape activities with her, then compare to her on the Concerta.

Brenda -- our ped told us the side effects diminish better if it is given daily, and no variation of the dose.  So I too am giving it daily.  I have read people like that they do NOT have to give it daily ... but I think they are confused.  My DS is much more stable if kept o nthe same dose every day!

T actually cracked a social joke last night!  That does it -- I will forge ahead ... She has NEVER cracked a joke before!

I will post it in its own thread, though ...

How's she doing now?

My son (5yrs old) has been taking Vyvanse for about 2 months now. His teachers noticed a huge change on day one. He takes it every morning at 6AM,so he hasnt had any sleep issues. His appetite was gone for a while, but it seems to be picking up with time. I make sure he eats a good breakfast shortly after he takes his med, befor it really kicks in.

I tried not giving it to him one weekend, and the following Monday he had a REAL bad day, so I decided to keep giving it to him everyday.

His body did need to get used to it and he did have a  rough patch the first week he was on it. And not giving those 2 days threw his body out of whack.(he had been on it for about 4 weeks when i did that)

Overall, I am pleased with it so far, and will continue use as long as it helps him.

We started on 20mg, but the second week it didnt seem to help as well as week one, so we upped it to 30mg. Seems to be a good fit for him.

Hang in there!

Brenda
