Alternative Medicines/Therapy for ADHD

We have tried lots of different things from omegas to magnesium...nothing works as well as stimulant medication for my sonthe ADHDnews board has a whole area devoted to alternative meds...you may want to go take a lookwhich ADHD board do you like?  There are quite a few.

I use high doses of amino acids with my 16 year old and they are working great - they also got his depression completely under control where antidepressants were not working.  You can find articles on this at www.vrp.com .  Go to the research section, and then to amino acids and probably on the second and third pages are articles about ADHD and amino acids.  There is one very informative one that explains how it is essentially an amino acid imbalance that causes the symptoms of ADHD so it would make sense to balance the amino acids back out to treat the symptoms.... it made sense to me and certainly worked for my son.  I myself have been able to wean myself off of Zoloft and replace it with 5-HTP, l-phenylalinine, and l-tyrosine and am doing great with my anxiety.

I also have my sixteen year old on fish oil that has a very high ration of EPA to DHA.  At least a 7:1 ratio is what you want to shoot for.  We are currently using MorEPA that I get from Vitamin Shoppe.  For my 4 year old I am using Barleans EPA fish oil which has a 10:1 ratio.

Can you please tell me if any of this helps with anxiety.  My son just hit puberty and his anxiety level is through the roof.  He thinks he is dieing, bleeding, locked in rooms etc.  HELP????

Has anyone used Alternaive Medicines for a child (6yrs old) to help minimize the affects of ADHD. If you did please tell us your story. It will help me out, my child who is 6yrs needs help in this area.

Thanks

Traditional stimulant meds devotee, here ... so far.

I am curious as to what is out there.

If it helps any I have read some negative things about DMAE and decided against using it.  It's not really a supplement, it is an unregualted DRUG.  Wikipedia I think had a good article on it.

DS has AS and ADHD symptoms.  All the stimulants made him agressive.  He's on catapres (clonidine) patches (for blood pressure) and they have really slowed his body down enough for his mind to catch up.  The patch keeps the dose steady.
