I have one child with ASD.I was wondering about the siblings of children with ASD.Sometimes I think my 3yr. old has something like OCD, Aspergers or PDD.I was curious to hear from other parents regarding signs of these things.

Hello Dae,

We just had a discussion on this, but I couldnt get the search function to work today--I think it is suffering from constipation. :O)  There are so many personal views on it. I don't believe asd is hereditary in my family--I am a vacc's person-I believe they contributed or caused it in two of mine. I also believe, although not mapped, the genetic disorder (not dx'd or taken seriously until 10 years ago in our house) contributes to some of my kids' symptoms as well. (inversion Chrom. 1).

I do believe they will find that, asd dx's have many factors and can be caused by many different things--some genetic, some environmental, some due to pharmacology, etc. The spectrum is just so broad and, no two kids on the spectrum are the same.

That's just my opinion. I am sure there will be many.

IMHO there a genetic component, even if it's a genetic weakness to a certain toxin or an autoimmune problem.  The spectrum is so broad and I wish there were a way break it down to look closer.  My two step sons both have autism, and so does their mothers new son with a different guy.  I find it almost impossible that she does not have an autism creating, contributing gene.   We have had genetic testing done on our son with Asd DX.Everything was normal. The latest research is regarding looking for deletions or repetitions of chromosomes which he had none of.
My daughter seems okay so far.It is just a few things she does I wonder about sometimes. But we are having her followed by therapists just to be sure. So far they report she is functioning close to her age.I might read into things she does... very hard not to when you have one with autism already!!!
