Another ARD QuestionSigh. This is so hard and is just draining me. I am trying to ask my quesitons in advance, like I was told. I was very clear that this would probably not be all my questions, but it was what I had so far. I was scolded for not having them all, but whatever. I asked about a PPCD placement on M, W, F only. My son has therapy on T, Th mornings which are during normal PPCD times. These are not moveable due to the limitations of the OT/PT's schedules (they do aquatic therapy and such in the afternoon). Now, I know my county has other schools that do this because a friend of mine that I met while waiting on my son to have his therapy just got this in her IEP a bit ago. She has the same issue, same therapist on the same days. It's not an option to move. He can't do it any other time. This is the only person on my insurance and the only one qualified to do what he does in our area. So, I am not being stubborn. But the school has told me, over and over, that they only deal with his educational needs, medical would have to be taken care of elsewhere. That's what we are doing. I asked about this today and was told that the state of Texas wouldn't give them funding for a student that wasn't there 5 days a week. Now, I know this is a lie because, as I said, I have a friend who's son is in PPCD, in the town next to us, same county we live in, same region, same DX, and he is going M, W, F due to the same exact scheduling issue I have. I called ARC of Texas and they told me to call the state offices over this. They gave me the contact information. I did and was told a bunch of run around that the ARD team would decide what is best for my son, I could agree or disagree, yadda, yadda. I said I understood that, I needed to know if we decided, as a team, that M, W, F would be a good schedule for him would the state of Texas refuse funding for my son. They never would answer, but their run around answers sounded like no, Texas WOULD fund him but they didn't want to say that. I know they will, the other school isn't seeing my friend's son for free. I can't find anything on line that addresses this exact issue to take with me to the IEP/ARD meeting. I need to show them, in writing, that this is OK and we can do this without the state pulling funding for my son. He's 3 years old, not 6 (the required age to start school in Texas), so this isn't a "he needs to attend so many days of Kindergarten to pass" situation. Does anyone know of any help I can get? I need laws or legal stuff or state written stuff so that I can hand it to them when they give me this on Monday. |
