Thank you all that answered my question on the other thread. I am sorry I had to start a new one, I just discovered that I can't edit my posts on here. Anyway, we spoke with his nutritionist and such and they all concur that he's losing muscle due to his refusal of all proteins. Until a few months ago, his body was compensating, but it's run out of options and is now basically taking his muscle to keep other parts of his body OK. It's protecting itself. This put us on high alert. Medical foods are being spoken about and we are trying to pump any type of protein into his sytem that we can. He's taking well to it and we are waiting to hear back about what medical foods we will have to implement for him. Thank you, again, for your replies. Hide the beans in baked goods. Use soy flour too. Grind up quinoa in stuff that he'll eat. Add an extra egg to the baked goods.Add protein powder to his milk product or a smoothie. I really push protein for the same reasons and noticed a marked difference combined with excercise. Best to you, Net We use Rice protein powder (because were gFcf) in smoothies, eat lots of bean type meals (because they like bean meals over rice mealsand we grind meat in our protein intolerant kiddos. We also have them on some amino acids.. I feel for you- were in the same boat but at this point their not losing any more musle tone. I think its just a metabolic issue in our kiddos. I use a protein powder called Beneprotein... It is like Benefiber. I put a small amount in things like pancake batter, macaroni sauce etc I bought it online from Walgreens I think Thanks for the update. I'm glad you're getting professional advice.
I am sooooo glad you are getting professional help on this and its working Super We have found that the best way to get non-junk food into DS is so feed him by hand - that too pureed food - while he is watching TV Its only becasue of this desperate measure that we are continuing to follow that he is normal in wt My food processor was my best friend. If you don't have one, you can get a small, electric chopper very cheap at wally world. I would cook protein and puree it, then hide it in their favorite foods. Just be prepared--our kids are very perceptive--I would have Taylor and Colin actually picking out each shred of chicken, and did it VERY WELL..lol. With school also helping, we now have lots of protein in their diet. I learned to cook tofu too, in a way that it tasted like a snack--using soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil and flour, frying it up and then putting a dipping sauce on the side. Amazing enough, because they love dipping sauces like bbq and ketchup, they would eat up the whole thing without problem. I can pm you how to cook this if you think it might help (I had to try tofu since they were so lacking in protein..it wasnt a personal YUM choice for me..lol). We no longer need supplements--between peanut butter and meats, as well as the tofu, they have lots of protein in their diet now. Kelly, as a Veg, I know a few tricks with Tofu -- the one you made is one; I also BAKE squares with peanut lime chili soy sauce garlic -- it is irresistible! I have not made that for some time now but the thought is making me CRAVE it! It is great ingredient to sneak into sauces and smoothies -- and you CAN'T pick it out! If you buy the foil packet is has a longer shelf life and is VERY bland. Fox, OH WOW..I am gonna have to try that! I have done the peanut-sauce (thai) one and they loved that too. I melted peanut butter and made that as a dipping sauce...DOUBLE PROTEIN..lol We do soy milk as well. My older ones dont like it but, since my younger two don't like any cow's milk at all, they are used to it. I get the chocolate flavor--but am now switching to almond and rice milks--the taste seems to be better for them--I make smoothies out of them as well. I love them too..YUM! We should start sharing recipes on the board of high-protein foods. I would love to see some of the things you cook or create with tofu! |
