gaba

GABA serves as a neurotransmitter.  It prevents nerve cells from firing too much, thus having a calming effect.what is it?

Does anybody give their child GABA??  Any thoughts on that???

Thanks

I also use the GabaMag cream for our son who just turned 7.  We love it and I feel that he is calmer.  We stopped using for 2 months as a test..........well we got more because it helps our son.  You have to order it on line.Hi,

Thanks everyone for your info about Gaba.

I still do not know just exactly how much to give to our 5 year old son.

Where can I find the dosage for someone on the spectrum?

Sincerely,

cre8tif

[QUOTE=nupurb]Wanted to give an update. We tried a product called GABA calm
which has gaba plus a few other things (all calming neuro
transmitters). My son turned more hyper and had more stims on it.
Reading a bit more about it, I found out that it had glycine which
actually maybe a problem and make glutamate/gaba imbalance
worse. My son also has high ammonia which may need to be
addressed first. Anyway, my feedback is if you want to try GABA
try just GABA, not with a whole bunch of other things.

What are you doing to reduce the ammonia.  Both of my kids had this issue in Jan/ Feb.  They were put on grapeseed (GPO) phytosome and some other supplements that reduced the ammonia in a month.  For instance, my son's ammonia was 52 when it shouldn't have been above 32.  Within a month, it dropped down to 17.  The same with my daughter.  Although my son suffered from dysbiosis at the time so he had a lot of yeast and bacteria going on too that we gradually have resolved.  I was just curious as to your approach because there are so many different methods out there.

My son has been taking it for about two weeks and he takes 1 capsule(500 mg) at night.  I haven't noticed any difference either way.  I am waiting on a phone call from my DAN and will ask to possibly up the dosage.  I just don't see any effect. Here are some links for GABA

Remember : this is not the be-all, end-all for GABA info
it is just to get you started
eg : one link says it was discovered in 1883
another in 1950

so do your research carefully

Jaden takes it--two capsules a day--but I dont notice a difference either way with it. Some people say their children get very calm on it.

I am new here and we have a 5 year old boy on the spectrum.

I have used Gaba, but will read all of your posts on this subject. Does anyone know how much Gaba to give the child ?

Gosh we used gaba a few years ago.  It seemed to calm John a bit.....it was recommended by our DAN doctor at the time.

Please post and let us know how he does on it.  I've had a bottle of it sitting on my counter for a year!  Guess it's probably not any good anymore.  If I had a nickel for every supplement bought and not used......

Hope it works wonders for your child!
