Lets BragDS initiated pretend play last night. He can pretend, but it's always been when one of us started it, and it's not very sophisticated. Last night, he declared it bathtime for his cat (fave stuffed animal), so I grabbed the laundry basket. He threw cat in, yelled "splash!" and proceeded to use a piece of plastic fruit for soap and a sock as a washcloth. This went on for almost five minutes before he said "all done," and the sock became a towel. Over the weekend I slept in, and when I got up, DH had DS playing on the floor. DS ran to me, said "Hi Mommy," and told me they'd eaten an apple and built a house. Ok, so he said, "and an apple, and a house," but I got the idea! He's never, ever shared an experience like that before!
DS #1 told me "pren pries are hot". That's huge for him. HUGE!!!! I know it might not seem like much, but in this house, with this little man, that's a good, good sentence and was constructed all by himself with no prompting from anyone.
Thats great, and It is a big thing Its a huge step forward! I remember my DD first sentence I CRIED! Taylor has been a snuggle button lately. She wants to sit with me and lay on my lap. This is huge for her--at one time, she couldnt sit and touch you in any way, including leaning, for more than a few seconds. Now, she can do it for..well, as long as you want to rub her back. If you stop, she grabs your hand and makes you keep going..lol Colin is answering questions..I talk in full sentences and he answers appropriately. Before, I got yes, when it meant no...or yes or now to a question that needed a response of what he did, who was there, etc. I still have to decipher some words (teacher's names, computer lab, PE, etc) but, he is now answering questions...I asked how school was and he said, "good". I asked what he had today at school and he said, "computer lab". I asked what days he had computer lab and he said, "Tuesday and Thursday". This is HUGE step forward. Sean has excelled in cooking and I see him really enjoying culinary arts. He got B's and C's on his science and SS==which, I know is modified but still... My NT kids--have to brag about them too. Molly is still working hard in ministry, started another youth group, and is opening up more with groups at school as well. She is still struggling with our college-prep classes in the public high schools--but working hard to get those up. Ryan--um, well..he is my rebel child but..hasn't gotten into trouble for over a month. This, let me tell you, is a very GOOD thing..lol Thanks..I enjoyed bragging instead of whining..nice change for me. :) Ok so lets brag about what our ASD children are doing well at.... DD read me Ten Apples up on top tonight with little help from me. She is just learning to read and already amazes me when its only been 6 weeks since she began Kindergarden. She is at a 8.7yr level with her fine motor skills. Thats 2yrs advanced DS today went over to the folded clothes that are waiting to go upstairs to be put away(this always takes me DAYS) and picked up his racing shirt looked at it and threw it to the side, then he picked up a long sleeved grey shirt with a Motorcycle on it and looked at it and threw it to the side, He then picked up this Orange shirt that says I STILL LIVE WITH MY PARENTS on it and tried to put it on... Of course he was already dressed but i changed his shirt. She also woke up and played a little bit of "Scarborough Fair" on her keyboard this AM. She hadn't practiced that one before so I was surprised she played it at all. Love hearing the successes. ![]()
Today we were driving to school and Jaden said, "Mama! You are going FAST!" She wrote her teacher a note using power point and told her she loved her & wrote that she was the best teacher she ever had..and I didnt help her at all..she even inserted the teachers picture in it with an arrow pointing to her. lol! |
