This is happening locally to where I live.  They are trying to get a bill into vote right now that would mandate some of the therapies that insurance don't cover for autism be covered.

That would be awesome! I can't imagine how tough this must be financially. and all you parents are doing is trying to take care of your kids! this is one of the things that is constantly on my mind, and it really bothers me how much you all pay out of pocket! I know that as a kid I had speech in school, but was given ot outside of school. Idk if insurance paid

I hope it gets passed.

Just wanted to mention the drawbacks to this here in Texas,

We just passed a Law here for ABA & other therapies to be paid for by insurance now but the problem is that in order to get private 1:1 at home the therapist & BCBA's dont accept insurance..I am guessing the insurance companies dont pay as much. The school here doesnt do ABA either so I dont know where parents go to get this paid for ABA therapy over age 6...we have one center that will take insurance but only certain ones and it is for preschool age kids only.

When we did ABA full time~30 hours our therapists got paid $30/hour and speech was 2 hours/2x a week at $85/hr..Our BCBA that wrote the programs came out 2x a month at $85/hour..not including all the supplies, books and the fact they are in your home everyday so you have to be home too. We paid a fortune for over 3 years but it was all worth it to see her doing so well. I think if we couldnt of sacrificed and got help from family we would of had to move to another state. I dont think we will ever recoup the $$$ we have spent but we can live with that knowing she will have a fair chance of living independent now:)

I envy the states where you get 40 hours of ABA/speech/ OT and PT and the parents dont have to fight for it. It will be a LONG time before it gets like that here even with the new law passed. Maybe in the future soon.
