Delaware

I don't live in Delaware, but I did take my son to PECS camp last summer which was in Delaware. From what I could tell, the services there are good. They have a state wide Delaware Autism Program.

Also, one of the parents at the camp had just moved to Chester County, PA, which is adjacent to Delaware up by Wilmington, from Atlanta. She said she was getting much better services in Chester County, and said that Chester County spent the most money per student of any school district in the country. I'm not sure how true that is, but you might check it out.

"Established more than 20 years ago, the Delaware Autism Program (DAP) is the largest public-school program for students with autism in the United States.More than 200 staff provide comprehensive educational, vocational, and residential services to more than 400 students with autism between 2 and 21 years of age in 3 centers across the state – the Sussex Consortium in Lewes (Cape Henlopen School District), the Charlton School in Camden (Caesar Rodney School District), and our statewide center in Newark (Christina School District). We emphasize direct teaching in community and natural environments, guided by the techniques of applied behavior analysis, to help each student enjoy and independent and fulfilling life." http://www.coe.iup.edu/edsp/JobListings/DelawareAutismProgra m.htm

I have heard and research online the DAP program but I am almost afraid to believe it because it sounds too good to be true. I was wondering if anyone has a first hand experience there.  Thanks for all those links. I will check them out.

My husband may have the option of going to Delaware to work...is anyone from there? How are the services there?
