Does anyone have any information on Autism (specifically PDD) resources? Anything at all would help. Thanks! Here I have a collection of various listings and directories to find various autism-related experts and services in the US: http://www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19141&am p;KW=find+an+expert Good luck finding what you need.
The website http://www.autismlink.com/ is based out of Pennsylvania, so it might have some good resources. Welcome to the board! Nicole Free Autism Resources and Printable Activities for Parents and Teachers! ~ http://www.PositivelyAutism.com/ Thank you both so much for the information! Just wondering where youre from In PAautism speaks had a great resource for PA, they listed a great place for diagnosis. We were able to get a date set to Feb 9th for Kylie. We have to pay out of pocket and i don't have the funds right now or she couldve gotten in sooner. But I'm glad I have found somewhere to go I dont know much about Autism Speaks and the services they offer, but I do know that You shouldnt have to pay out of pocket you should be able to recieve PA Access for your kids since they have Autisminsurance is such a mess. We are on something called the Hipp Family Act through the welfare office. We have my hubby's insurance and then the medical assistance. Unfortunatly, the autism clinic we are going to doesn't accept insurance or medicaid, so that is why we have to pay out of pocket. I cant even get wraparound because of the insurance mess. It's such a headache. You need to have the medical assistance as your primary insurance and then your hubbys insurance. You should be eligible for wrap around services simply because you have the access card. They shouldnt be able to deny your child(ren) because you have other insurance that is such crap...there is so much red tape with regular insurance and they dont want to cover anything! I was just about to type that before hand about having the med assistance and then hubby but they told me I couldnt revert back to medical assistance because of being in that HIPP plan. Now if something severely drastic were to happen then possibly they would be able to, it's a big headache. Here's about the HIPP Plan, insurance nightmarehttp://www.workworld.org/wwwebhelp/health_insurance_premium_ payment_hipp_.htm http://www.statecoverage.net/pennsylvaniaprofile.htm I am in Pottstown, PA. It is about an hour north of Philadelphia. KBear. I am so sorry to hear about the insurance mess. I am applying for medicaid right now because we make just too much for medical assistance. Yep, OJR school district for us :) That's by the mall right? I'm in regular Pottstown by the high school. I'm pm-ing you. May not be the right place, BUT as a former WEAP employee I have been trying to offer an Aquactic Autism Therapy Class at the Pottstown YMCA, however I have been told there is no real autism cases in the Pottstown area, hense there is no interest in this class. Please let me know if anyone would be interested in this type of class. I'm going to push to offer it one last time in the Summer, but may lose my battle to bring this wonderful class to PA.WHAT? no real autism cases in the Pottstown area? WHOEVER TOLD YOU THIS IS SOOO WRONG. My 2 have Autism, Trinity listed above your post has a child with autism and she lives in Pottstown as well. I know my 2 kids love swimming and being in water, they are water rats, LOL. If you advertise locally with the intermediate units, you will get a great response from parents etc. I'm always looking for something closer to home for my kids to participate in. Yeah, we have so few cases that there are two specific programs for autistic children in Pottstown, one medical for children who cannot attend school and one through the school system. Talk with the people at Creative Health and see if they can give you statistics to back it up. I pm'd you, but I will write a letter to the YMCA also if you think that will help. I have to add that this is just Pottstown schools I know about. KBear's children attend Owen J Roberts school district. There is also Pottsgrove schools which are only about 10 min. from the Y also. Pottstown is absolutely huge. Huge yes, but no one ever wants to take the class. I have been told to get students into this class I would have to go to Spring Valley YMCA, which is a pain in the but since I live in Pottstown (NorCo side). The class is offered For the next ten weeks on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:00. Cost is for ten classes, and starts today (yeah I know short notice) and ends the week of March 15. Cost is $45 for members & $60 for nonmembers. How are the classes set up? Lots of interaction, some learning, (I was taught the Lovas method (ABA), so that is what I use), some swimming skills. I try to introduce turn taking, waiting, encouraging others, etc. I have a bunch of different "toys" I brought with me when I moved to Pa, letters/numbers, foam puzzles that they can put together after finding all the pieces, squish toys, plus I utilze the items the YMCA has such as toys, kick boards, beach balls, noodles, bubbles, etc. |
