Is anyone from California? We have used the services in Sac, even though we are up north. We are from Sacramento, so its easy for us to visit relatives and attend appts. Alta Regional Center is great. I have 2 friends that I grew up with that also have autistic kids. They are happy with Alta Regional Center. Most of the school districts have excellent autism services. I checked into them and talked to several special ed teachers. We considered moving back, but my husbands job is a problem. From what I saw, Elk Grove and Folsom-Cordova had the best programs. Center Unified (Antelope) and Rio Linda Union (North Highlands, Rio Linda, north sac area) seem to have pretty good services also. San Juan Union (Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, etc) has had alot of cuts and those included special ed teachers. There are also active parent support groups that meet in different parts of Sac. From what I have been told, they are a really great place to find info about services, who can help you, advocates, etc. If you are near the MIND Institute, you can take part in studies, attend monthly lectures, etc etc etc. I try to plan my visits to Sac around conferences, lectures, etc. Hi, I'm in Central CA. The MIND institute has a reputation as one of the best places to get an evaluation. Don't really know anything about services though. |
