Should I give Abilify one more night, badSo I was supposed to give him the med an hour before bed b/c it was suppoed to make him sleepy. He was not sleepy, actually pretty wired. Lately I have been giving him Melatonin to go to sleep. I was afraid to do that b/c of the new drug. He didn't go to sleep for close to three hours. He slept "all night" if you can call it that. He usually sleeps to around 7 when he goes to bed that late. He was up at 5:30 screaming and thrashing around the bed. (It took six years to get him to sleep through the night) He is up now. Looking very, very tired. I haven't been able to judge yet if is behavior is any different but I am so tired to even care. I will give the doctor a call but should I give it another night? Raquel Wow I think you should call right away. I was supposed to start my son on abilify but now I am hesitant. I was hesitant to start him on respirodal. I wish you luck. Get some sleep and call the dr'sI would call the doctor too. I hope it gets all straightned out and you both get the rest you badly need.First of all, you should be telling the doctor about ALL the meds you give to your child, including OTC things and even vitamins. Our son has been on Melatonin together with Risperdal in the past and our doc is fine with that. Risperdal is similar to Abilify. So my guess is that the doc will OK the Abilify along with the Melatonin, but check. Abilify takes a couple of weeks to get to its proper level. And then, if it has not improved the behavior but you don't see any negatives, the doctor will raise the dose and you'll repeat the process ever couple of weeks or month until the optimal med level is reached. Using Abilify is not like taking aspirin for a headache. This slow, methodical raising of dose has a name -- titration. And, if you ever need to take your child off the med, you have to titrate him down, too. Don't give up you don't get an immediate positive response, but report any negative response to the doctor. Luke was on Risperdal which I did love, however we had to stop because at the age of six years he was getting breast. Then we tried the Abilify and it made Luke have really bad meltdowns and Luke has never slept through the night. So we stopped Abilify and now he is on seroquel and he is sleeping through the night. Still having some meltdowns but I think it is because school is out and he does not have a routine. My 13 year old takes Abilify. It took a few weeks for the tiredness symptom to wear off, but it does. For him, Abilify literally saved my family, but I know it isn't the same for everyone.Adam is on Abilify. We tried to give it to him at night, but that didn't really work for us, so now he takes it in the morning with no side effects. It has been a wonderful thing for us. |
