Any Iowans on the board?

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

I am just watching all of the flooding in horror. I lived in Iowa City during the Great Flood of '93 and it was awful. This is five times worse. I have talked with several people down there and it is just awful.

Are there any people on the board living in Iowa? I imagine that if there are - they probably don't have much access to a computer right now.

Let's send some good prayers and vibes their way. Thankfully, at least at this point, there have been no fatalities due to the flooding (I'm not counting the Scouts who died in the tornado).

Places that I know and love are almost completely underwater.  My dh's brother's company runs the railroad and one of their bridges collapsed with 20 hopper cars on it. 9-1-1 has been down (not operating) for long periods of time. They almost closed I-380 which is the main thoroughfare but are keeping one lane open at this time. Interstate 80 (one of the most traveled east-west highways in our country - is having THIRTY miles shut down and re-routed tomorrow. I cannot imagine how that will go.

Right now, there isn't anything people can do to help, according to my friend who works at the Crisis Center. She said that in a few days, much help will be needed - and donations of food, clothes (particularly socks), water and money will be very appreciated.

I'm not in Iowa, but WI is getting slammed. Several tornadoes, flash flood warnings, highways being shut down from the flooding, SEVERAL storm systems moving through the state simultaneously and in succession... I know that WI dells was slammed this weekend, a dam burst on Lake Delton and destroyed a good part of the city just a few hours after I left...

This weather is awful. My thoughts go out to anyone dealing with all of this awful weather

I just heard about that Jess - OMG! We have been there many times - and that city depends on a lot on tourism during the summer months. This will be horrible for them.

WiMom - are you okay?

I think she should be, knowing the area she lives in. They're getting hit with the storms, but no tornadoes, just flash flooding. Hope everyone stays safe. [QUOTE=snoopywoman]

Yup, we're doing o.k.  We have been speding a lot of time in the basement lately.    Seriously, in my 41 years I've never seen a stretch of bad weather like this.

We live in Lake Country and the flooding situation is BAD.  We're not in any imminant danger, but we have family member whose home is in danger.  The water hasn't quite reached the door, but if the dam breaks they're in trouble.  They were told to evacutate yesterday.

The town my BIL lives in has water running through the streets like a river.  I have never seen anything like it.  They even had fish swimming up the streets!

Please send wishes for sunny skies in the Midwest.  We need it!

WIMomOf239612.5132060185oh my gosh! my head has been in the sand with finals---this looks really
bad! please keep us all posted about how you are all doing!

and, Snoops, I don't know a lot about flooding--but wow can I relate to
watching my old neighborhood be literally destroyed--There were some
HUGE fires that wiped out a good portion of my hometown many years back,
and it was just shocking to see it all on the news everyday.
big , for you!Sending my thoughts and prayers to y'all.  The photos look like Katrina's levee breaks.  At least the water will drain out fairly quickly - hope y'all get a break soon!!  Awful. I've been obsessively looking at all of the flooding pictures and it looks horrible in Iowa, I can't imagine living there. I hope all from our board who live there are well.

The city where I go to school (in WI, not IA) is totally flooded. Over 75% of the streets are covered in water and impassable with 6inches to 14 FEET of water. :(

This weather is crazy. JessicaO39612.7316203704

Flood level in Cedar Rapids is 12 feet. They are currently looking at over 31 feet, with the crest expected to be at 32+ feet. So, 20 feet over flood level.

It is just awful and so many friends and family are without power and in danger of losing their homes, businesses, jobs, etc.
