Did anyone see the breif discussion on the View today ? It was about a story headline I had not yet heard about.....a priest banning a 13 year old from church. Not sure where it happened....Minneapolis ??? not sure.....some one may have the details better than I do.....I googled it and put 2 articles at the end of this page But the background was : 13 year old boy w/ Autism. They say he is a big kid....6 feet tall, over 200 pounds....has disruptive behaviors(spitting, urinating, hitting)....parents calm him by sitting on him or tying his hands and feet. They said he is allowed to start cars in the parking lot as that sound calms him. THis is what Whoopi & Sherri said....I'm not sure on the actual details. The church said it was all too disruptive and upsetting to younger children and offered some modifcations......private mass, putting him in a different room, etc....but the parents said no....he will attend regular mass with everyone...... wondering what you all think of it.....wondering what you would do.....wondering if anyone has better details than me.....here are the articles...... http://kstp.com/article/stories/s448291.shtml?cat=1 I may not be the advocate I need to be.....but if my daughter was urinating in church.....she'd be there in a pullup......she has hit people Her being disruptive in the way of loudness.....is a different thing....I say....get used to that....but her hitting, spitting, or causing harm to another....no....I would not permit and expect others to accept it.....any thoughts ? www.autism-pdd.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=26782&PN=1 Closing thread to combine this topic into 1 thread. and I do limit her exposure for that reason....just becuase you stop for NOW and until you can control the behaviors.....doesn't mean you stop forever.....I would NOT allow my daughter to behave in this way and expect others to tolerate it.
