Hey y'all - do you remember the little earthquake and volcano discussion we had some time ago? Well, what with the newly awakend volcano in Chile last week followed by the big quake in China yesterday, those of you in CA might want to make sure your water and battery supplies are good. The Chinese quake was way west, so its probably not directly related to the volcano in Chile...but. The Chilean thing is on our tectonic plate, so something is heating up, moving around magma-wise, and could cause some readjustments up here. Just check your kits, in case, okay? ya, that quake in China was really bad, like thousands dead according to CNN. It was a 7.8 in magnatude, pretty big!!!I remember while living here we had a very small earthquake, I think I slept thru the whole thing, somethin like a 7.8 tho... aint nobody sleepin thru that. I hope thats the last of the catastrophy, we really have seen enough over the years.yep, i was thinking the same thing....off to the camping store tomorrow to update our kit! What's in a kit? It depends on what type of kit you have. Usually for like the kids 72 hour kit for school it has granola bars, juice, a flashlight, a card and picture, tuna fish or canned lunch like ravoili, hand sanitizer, etc. They sell them in the stores up here but you can also make your own. This is one of my favorite sites to check and I usual model my kits after theirs. It's from the red cross the website is www.firstaidstore.com also, cel phone charger, battery powered radio, drinking water, warm clothes, shoes with heavy soles, basic camping supplies for comfort if you have to remain outside for a while. Knock on wood, never had to use mine in all the 40 years I've lived in California--and i was even here for the Big One in 94.... But, let me just say that HOLY CRAP! 7.8 in china is a MONSTER earthquake. I only pray that never happens here in my lifetime. [QUOTE=MamaKat]also, cel phone charger, battery powered radio, drinking water, warm
Wow. We almost had to use our emergency supplies where I live in Central Cali when we had a HUGE earthquake in 2005. It destroyed an entire city just about 45 mins north of me (where I am working now) and we deffantly felt it at my house. We have already had a small after shock of the one in China :( |
