testing-where to beginWe did a trial of the diet before we did any testing. As soon as I read about the diet, it matched my DD's symptoms so exactly, we just dove in. We saw really dramatic results right away, so we stuck with it. We've been doing it since October 2007. The TACA website has a ton of GFCF info including meal plans, shopping lists, tips for getting started, and a list of GFCF foods you can find at your local grocery store. I also recommend Lisa Lewis’s book Special Diets for Special Kids, Karyn Seroussi’s Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and PDD (she recovered her son using the diet) and Bette Hagman’s The Gluten-Free Gourmet Cooks Comfort Foods. Good luck! Also, if you live near a Whole Foods there website has a special diets section. If you choose the store nearest you and choose the GFCF diet it brings up all the foods that your particular store offers. It's a really cool feature and makes planning a menu a lot easier, especially when your just getting used to the diet. Here is a link to a labratory that provides the specific tests--most of the tests are sent to your home for no charge, you collect the sample and then the fee is applied when you send it back for analysis. I believe that the urinary peptide test is the one that checks for casein and gluten intolerances. Click on the autism link for the tests that they offer. http://www.labbio.net/pages/index_vh_eng.htm Best of luck with everything! |
