my kid threw his shoes at the bus driver!

Back to Autism Information >> Next Topic

We got a call from Zachary's preschool yesterday.  It seems that my beloved son decided to take off his shoes on the bus home from school and THROW them at the bus driver (his seat is behind the driver).   Needless to say, his mother and I were not amused, and after his brother got to go out and play while the shoe-thrower got to stay inside and help set the table.  He also got to call his bus driver and apologize to her, which he did.  I post this for no other reason than just to wonder if anybody else has had this situation happen to them, and what they did. Never threw his shoes, but bookbags - yep. We did the same thing.

My son has only thrown shoes at me while I was driving. On the bus----he only whipped kids with his seatbelt as they walked by.

Then he got put in a harness so he wouldn't take the seatbelt off. He still was able to trip parents/kids and spit on them.

Oh yeh---he did drive our van into the bus also--at 4y.

Now he is 8y and he still has bus issues. NO seatbelts!!! New, bigger (little) bus. He will stand up when on the highway, etc. They put a harness in for him--if needed. It's a great visual reminder. Has never needed it yet!

Ouch.

My daughter tried to kick the principal. I was furious. I made her type a letter of apology to the principal. I'd wanted to get her to read it to her, but she was busy, so I just left it at the office.

I think that solved the kicking issue.

My daughter has pulled my hair while driving. That was when she was in pre-school.

Ya, I threw that and a pencil once

Ok... now I know this is terrible also, but I just remembered in 3rd grade I was being influenced by the bus bully a bit, and we came up with tiny bows and arrows that I made out of paperclips and rubberbands, it was quite clever, and used toothpicks for the arrow, they did not work like I imagined, but it was at least fun until I got caught and the other kid never got in trouble.    woodsman2539563.0874421296

Yes, a few months back Justin punched a little old lady in the butt as she was bending over the meat case in a local grocery store.  Wow..he thought it was funny but learned VERY quickly that it was NOT okay to hit someone, hurt someone, or invade personal space of another person w/out asking first.  He lost his DS for almost 3 months because of it (which is, in his mind, a very severe punishment because it's for play, not learning).

Fast forward to about 2 months ago when he punched me in the chest (read: sternum, not breasts), and yesterday when he whacked his dad's wrist with a racquetball raquet.  For his latest transgression he got no TV, no movies, and had to take a nap....for our kiddo sometimes sleeping "it" off makes him wake up as a whole different kiddo (in a good way!)

My mother is a school bus driver and they did have a shoe thrower this year on one of the buses.  Your son isn't the only kid who has done this!  I don't know what they did to address the situation.  Maybe a social story would help.  Norway Mom has a collection of stories about riding the school bus on page 6 of her social stories thread.

Good luck!
