AdviseIn our state (Illinois) they are REQUIRED to provide transportation if needed if you have a child with a qualifying disibility (needing an IEP) ...we are asked at every meeting if we require trans. From what I've read here, col's suggestions about being specific about what else the transportation needs to include is critical!!! Also Terrell...wanted to tell you to check the 'sticky' at the top of the education forum on this board....there are some good links there too. ![]() Hi all~
I am in a situation concerning transportation of my autistic child. A program of transportation for her hasn't kicked in, and at the moment we are responsible for transporting to and from school. My husband's employer is is not cooperating on our situation. Right now, they are going as far as repremand him for leaving. Any advice? We are trying to do the right thing and also being responsible for the concern of our child. Could anyone direct us to the disablity act links or ideas of the direction we could use to resolve this problem----any info is greatly appreciated ----we are in Pittsburgh area... if transportation is on your iep then your school district has to transport him. must say curb to curb service and if you need a matron or any equipment that must be on iep. the director of your childs school shoulld have already contacted the transportation office. if not you can call them find out why he is not getting picked up. if you want to fight them they should really pay you if they have not been transporting your son. call your local education law center they will be in the phone book and they can give you legal channels to go through. if your husband has family leave clause at his work he can claim time off under that. if he is union have him check it out. my husband has used it at his job when my son has gotten out of school early or has been sick at school. |
