| Anyone with info on different agencies or doc, therapy etc to help asd kids in michigan.mom2carlo Hello mom2carlo. I'm from Michigan too but I still don't have a lot of info to share...but one of the other board members referred my to the Easter Seals website and they have a ton to offer. I'm not sure if it's income based yet...my dh makes pretty good money but we still can't afford all these expensive services (188.00 per session for ST). I sent them an email but I haven't heard anything back as of yet. Good luck and let me know what you find! Thanks, Stephanie Thanks for the info Stephanie.I'll check it out.Take care.mom2carloI am from northern Oakland county. I can tell you my experiences here. Especially OT at Beaumont which is $508/hr. But I have have had some good ST. Where are you from? Suzi T Is this real? $508/hour for OT! Wow...How to they justify that price?Hi, What part of Michigan are you in? I am near Grand Rapids. Google online for "The Gray Center", they have a ton of information, support groups, workshop, and local links. One great link that is not there is Mary Free Bed Hospital--they do OT, PT, speech, and a feeding clinic. Take Care... My dh used to be an OT years ago. If they could get $508/hour in Georgia he'd still be doing that, I'm sure! Around here they get about $90 / hour but then you have to factor in travel time, paperwork/billing time, etc. I think the STs usually get around $80 / hour. I've heard things were more expensive up North, but WHEW!, we certainly couldn't afford $508 / hour! ....Makes me kind of glad we live in GA, even if the gov. services aren't that great! Hey Mom2carlo - I live in M County but we had this HUGE Wayne County phonebook delivered to us...you and I must be pretty close. Stephanie Hi, We moved from Grand Blanc, MI three years ago and my son was receiving some services through the state of MI. He's an adult now, but when he was in school, he either had to be learning delayed 25% or more to receive services or certified as EI (emotionally impaired), which he was. He was then covered under Section 504 (not even sure if they call it that anymore) and able to receive services in school, and as an adult, after graduation. Now that was 9 years ago, so I'm sure everythings changed, I don't think there was such a thing as Aspergers syndrome then. At least he wasn't diagnosed that until years later. We were told that if he wasn't tested during the high school years, he would never be allowed services through the state. They paid for a two year tech school program which included books and on campus boarding. He did get some counseling but obviously not enough because he never finished. I would try to contact the Michigan Rehabilitation Services and see if they can't help you, they may be able to direct you to the right Agency. I have heard that Beaumont Hospital was good and Ann Arbor is also (if your lucky to live close).I did hear of the hospital near GR also, My son was going to be sent their for treatment at one time, not sure why we didn't? As for the schools, I think they are overwhelmed with all the kids with developmental problems. Funding is certainly an issue. I know my son always slipped through the cracks because he was high functioning and basically they didn't want to spend any more money than they needed too. That's what it comes down to is the $$$. My son had a good therapist in GB then his therapist moved to the Novi area. You can look him up. He may be a good resource. His name is Todd Nadeu. I think that's how I wrote the checks:) Or it's Nadeau. Anyway, he does mostly sports training (some of the pro players) and coaching (mental), but he is pretty connected in the psychology field and he may know of programs, theapists etc... He helped us out alot. My hubby doesn't think so, but he just looks at the dollars we spent . Never a quick fix! He's cheap compared to what everyone else is paying. Good Luck, Ginger - Mom to Paul 26, Aspergers, add, ocd, atypical bipolar. Russ 22, Melanie, 13, Christine 10, & Audrey 8. |
