dmg and irritability?

You can try TMG if the irritability doesn't go away, but first try folinic acid and see if that helps. I give my daughter TMG/Folic/MB12 sublinguals. She didn't do well with DMG.

Also, if your son has yeast overgrowth issues, DMG and Folic or any B vitamin are big yeast feeders and the yeast will cause irritability and more autistic behaviours.

Where do you get the tmg at? let me know please by email. Has anyone tried supplementing with the serotonin l-tryptophan for anxiety relief. I've had fairly good results with 250 mg before bedtime every few days (with some vitamin C -- I use magnesium ascorbate, 500 mg -- to enhance conversion to serotonin instead of melatonin). I've found studies showing that most kids with autism are serotonin deficient.

I think it's a really good idea to work with a medical professional when diving into the wonderful world of supplements. There are so many different interventions -- diets, supplements, yeast-fighters, holistic treatments -- it's just exhausting trying to figure it all out on your own. Plus, each kid is unique, and what's terrific for one kid could be terrible for another.

We work with a fabulous naturopathic doctor who isn't expensive at all, and we've seen terrific results with both of our DDs. To find a naturopath near you, check their national association: http://www.naturopathic.org

Everyone knows that prescription medications come with side effects, but we often forget that alternative treatments do, too.  I gave my son DMG about 10 years ago.  It made him SO hyperactive (from only one or two doses) that it took us a MONTH to calm him down.  When we give our kids rx drugs, these things are supervised by an experienced physician. When we give them alternative drugs, the reaction is most often supervised only by US.  We KNOW that traditional medications are metabolized differently, asd patient to asd patient. Logic says that this will be true of any supplement, too.  Please...if any of us gives our children ANYTHING to ingest that is not part of a traditional diet, keep excellent records and be very, very watchful.  Of course this is true of meds, but usually there's a professional involved then.

Hi, I'm a newbie and have been reading all the posts and great info. I have a 9.5 yr old son who has been diagnosed with a few different labels by different docs. Basically, he goes to the beat of a different drummer! He is very bright - but socially and physically awkward. He is in the "autism spectrum/aspergers" range. Since the age of 4 have tryed almost every adhd and ssri out there, all with the negatives out weighing the positives.

Anyway, after reading many message boards on autism and adhd, decided to try dmg and omega 3s. Did not notice any real difference with the omega 3s, but did notice some improvement with dmg. He had improved listening and eye contact - yet very irritable!! tryed folic acid w/dmg and had very dialated eyes?

Has anyone experienced this with dmg? Not sure if I should continue it or not. Any advice appreciated.

When you added the folic acid did the irritability go away?  How long has he been on the dmg with the folic acid?

How long did you try the Omega 3's?  What brand and dosage did you try?  You should continue with these even if you didn't see a real difference.  Everyone needs EFA's, especially children with an ASD and you may just see an improvement over time.  Some children show improvements within days, some take a little longer.  Your son may need a larger dose than what is recommended on the bottle.
